Why We Started Mintz Garage: Building a Better Interior, One Wheel at a Time
Mintz Garage exists to make the inside of your car feel as exciting as the spec sheet. We build custom steering wheels and interior parts with a focus on design, fitment, and a smooth installation experience so you get a factory-tight finish with a bespoke look.
Most “custom” interior parts look great on Instagram and then disappoint in real life. Too often you get misaligned stitching, a wobbly fit, buttons that don’t click like OEM, and installs that feel risky—especially when airbags and electronics are involved. We kept asking why custom couldn’t look and feel like it came from the factory. That question launched Mintz Garage: a brand dedicated to delivering enthusiast-grade design with OEM-level execution.
Our promise is simple: bespoke, without the guesswork. You choose the materials and vibe—carbon, leather, Alcantara, perforations, unique stitch patterns, and tasteful embossing—and we obsess over ergonomics, transfer your airbag, paddles and controls, and torque everything to spec. To keep the experience stress-free, you can add professional Steering Wheel Installation at checkout; we center the wheel, verify electronics, and send you off with everything working as expected.
Today, we focus on custom steering wheels for key enthusiast platforms, beginning with Mercedes-AMG and expanding from there. We’re also developing interior trim details—shifter surrounds, badges, and accent pieces—to tie the cabin together. Coming soon, we’ll launch a bespoke leather seat program that re-trims your seats with distinctive patterns, perforation maps, and embossing. Our first full-seat pilot will be the Mercedes-AMG C 63 platform, with more to follow.
Ordering is straightforward. Configure your wheel in our online builder—choose leathers, carbon, stitching, grips, and optional LEDs—then add professional installation if you’d like. We build and ship your parts, confirm your install time, and you drive away smiling, with your horn, buttons, backlighting, and paddles functioning like they should. Because airbags and vehicle electronics demand care, our process uses battery isolation, proper clock spring alignment, and final torque checks. We finish with functional tests and, when possible, a short road check to confirm centering. If your trim requires extras—like a heated-wheel harness or coding—we’ll flag it before installation, not after.
Design details matter to us. Grip geometry should feel right on long drives and on spirited runs. Materials should age gracefully, with carbon properly laid and finished. Stitching should actually match your cabin accents, not “almost.” If you want a center-line, it should feel motorsport-inspired without looking out of place. These little decisions compound into a wheel that you notice every single time you drive.
For those who prefer a hands-off experience, our installation service covers removal of your OEM wheel, transfer of airbag, buttons, wiring, and paddles, precise centering, correct torque, and function tests. Most installs take between sixty and one-hundred-twenty minutes depending on the vehicle. We’re also building an installer network nationwide so you can book local fitment right in our checkout. If your city isn’t listed yet, we’ll route you to a trusted partner or coordinate at our New Jersey base.
Why does this matter? Because you interact with your steering wheel every time you drive. You may have tuned for power and dialed in your stance, but the cabin is where the car becomes yours. A well-designed wheel transforms the daily commute, a Sunday blast, or that late-night loop when the city feels like a circuit. It’s the mod you feel every mile.
Next up for Mintz Garage, we’re pushing our seat program from pilot to production, expanding steering wheel coverage across popular German and Japanese enthusiast cars, and deepening customization with new stitch patterns, perforation maps, and refined embossing options. We’re also rolling out the Mintz Garage Society membership—priority drops, install credits, extended coverage, and select merch—to reward early adopters who build with us from day one.
Questions we get on day one usually center on functionality and timing. Yes, your airbag and buttons still work; we transfer OEM components and test them thoroughly. Heated-wheel and driver-assist features are typically retained, though some platforms need a harness or coding, which we’ll confirm in advance. Lead times depend on spec and demand, and we always show current estimates on the product page before you check out. We prioritize Mintz customers for installation and, if you’re considering a third-party wheel, reach out to support first so we can advise on compatibility.
If you’re ready to elevate your cabin, start by configuring a custom steering wheel book professional installation at checkout if you want the turnkey experience, or schedule a quick consult if you’d like help choosing materials. Mintz Garage exists to make your interior live up to your car’s potential—beautiful, functional, and undeniably yours.
